How would you respond to someone who says that Jesus Christ was a wonderful teacher but nothing more?

Jesus could not have been a wonderful teacher if he is not the Son of God. Because he claimed to be the Son of God, if he is not, then he would have been a liar and a fraud. He is either the Son of God or he is a liar. If you are a liar, you are not a good teacher because you are not teaching truth and knowledge.

Trusting that the Holy Spirit would give me the words I need, I would reply in love about how Jesus has changed my life and how I can live in freedom with the promise of being in Heaven for eternity because of what Jesus did for you and for me on the cross. Hopefully that would open the door to a deeper conversation about Jesus and the truth of the Bible.

I would respond that he was a wonderful teacher but so much more. Through Biblical exploration and our faith that he is our Lord and Savior.

I would say that I agree that he was a wonderful teacher and would love to hear the person’s favorite examples of HOW Jesus was a wonderful teacher and whether we see biblical evidence for how his example led his disciples to also be wonderful teachers as well. Throughout that, perhaps I would have opportunities to share my testimony as a teacher and Christian.

I think the best way to respond to someone who thinks this way is with scripture. Show them in scripture where he was way more than “just a teacher”.
