How would you respond to someone who says that Jesus Christ was a wonderful teacher but nothing more?

I first learned of this topic from reading C. S. Lewis. He discussed that Jesus was not just a good teacher, because a good teacher would not lie about who he was. Either he was the Son of God or a madman. He was either part of the Trinity send from the Father with all of His other claims or he was untrustworthy.

Jesus claimed he was God. He could not be a good teacher but not more; he either was God, crazy, or a con artist.

I would share that Jesus did not leave that option open to them. He is either Lord, liar, or lunatic, to quote C. S. Lewis.

Our first instinct in these situations is to go on the defensive, but this tactic typically will not have the desired outcome. First, I would listen to what this person has to say. Then I would point out the authority of scripture in my own life and provide the details that demonstrate Jesus Christ as being more than just a teacher.
