I would tell that person that it is true that he was a wonderful teacher. But he is so much more. There were so many prophesies about Jesus’ coming, life and death that have all come to pass. This would not have been possibel for any ordinary man. The Bible makes it clear that he was both man and God. This is important becasue He was there in the beginning and will reign forever. It is only through his death and resurection that we too can have life eternal.

I would agree that He was a great teacher, but argue that He was so much more. Going back to scripture you see evidence to His claims of being the Son of God. He knew His scripture, but He taught with authority. He performed miracles. He changed lives. He died and rose again. All of this points to Jesus being more than just a great teacher.

I would say “Look at what Jesus says. He himself says He is the Son of God. If He was simply a great teacher (which He was!), but nothing more, then He is a liar. And in my experience, liars are NOT good teachers. Since He was such a great teacher, we need to believe what He said about Himself.

If Jesus Christ is not the Son of God, then He lied. If He lied, then is was not a wonderful teacher. Our foundation for our beliefs must be God’s Word, and we must believe what the Bible says about Jesus Christ.

I would say that they have not taken God at his Word, revealed in Scripture. I would try and listen why they think that is the case and hope to explain why he is so much more than just a “wonderful teacher.”
