How would you respond to someone who says that Jesus Christ was a wonderful teacher but nothing more?

I would say Jesus is a good teacher but he is more than a good teacher because he spoke as a man with authority not as the religious leaders.

I would respond by first agreeing that Jesus is a wonderful teacher but He is so much more. In order to be wonderful teacher he has to speak truth and the truth is that He is the son of the God which has been proven time and again through scripture.

I would start by agreeing that he was a wonderful teacher, but then proceed to show that he was so much more. I would point that the numerous miracles he performed, how He fulfilled Scripture, and how he appeared to so many people after his resurrection. It takes more than a teacher to do all that.

History and the spread of Christianity shows that Jesus is so much more. The impact He has had on His disciples once he rose from the dead that they feverishly defended the gospel and fought for the truth and were even willing to die for the gospel speaks volumes. The missionaries and those who give their lives and do so willingly are also proof of Jesus’ very real existence.

To the above stated question, I would respond with the principle laid out by C.S. Lewis, which states that Christ must be lunatic, liar, or Lord. A teacher would not be considered great if they were also characterized as a liar. Jesus made claims of deity, which if not true would render him crazy or untruthful. There is no realm of reality in which Jesus would be considered nothing more than a wonderful teacher.
