One practical way that I can help prepare my students for the struggles they’ll face in the world is to be real with them when they ask a question or when we are in discussions. I will also give them opportunities to work out real world tasks in a safe environment.

I asked the Lord what direction He wanted me to go in and He told me to teach. I have always been involved in Kids Ministry and I immediately knew that I could not teach in a public school because I could not know the Answer to students’ problems, but not give them the Answer (Jesus). Yes, I have share this with my students when they have asked why I wanted to teach in a Christian school.

As a middle school teacher, I am constantly using discernment to determine which current events are appropriate to share with sometimes sheltered Christian school students. In eighth grade, we openly discuss many topics, and compare and contrast them to God’s word during Social Studies class. But, many sixth graders and not ready to be exposed to some of the same topics. Also, I bring in Voice to the Martyrs magazines and allow students to read them. It is always eye opening to them to realize that many Christians around the world pay extreme prices for their faith, while many in our country may take advantage of it.

    1. I share with my students real-life scenerios of people before them trying to walk in the Christian life.

    2. I purpose to ground them in a biblical worldview.

    3. I prepare for them sound curriculumn and academic expectaions.

    4. I offer them a genuine relationship and example.

We can encourage and practice with them ways to help them face these struggles. We can teach them to pray and go to Scripture to help guide them when they are dealing with struggles.
