Remain positive when the next group comes in if the group leaving has had a bad day.

More positive praising, spending more time with them, and make sure they know that they are valued.

By spending more time with them, set aside one day a week and have lunch with them.

As mentioned in an earlier discussion post, I believe I have many practices in place that help me nurture my students and show them how much they are valued. However, this lesson made me realize my tendency to occasionally pack too much content into my class periods. I really appreciated what our instructor said about building some margin into class time, particularly at the beginning and end, to welcome students, connect with them, and set the tone for the class. This is definitely an area where I can improve.

When our school was smaller, I used to have lunch with my students regularly. Now, as the elementary school coordinator, it’s more challenging because lunchtime is often spent in meetings or catching up on deadlines. However, I want to restart this practice and am praying for the grace to stay consistent with it.
I also want to dedicate more time to students with behavioral challenges—getting to know them better and becoming more involved in their lives.
