I would like to work on knowing every students’ name. This was my first year at this school and my goal was to know every 4th, 5th, and 6th graders’ name. I accomplished this goal, but now I would like to also learn the upcoming 8th, 4th, and 3rd graders’ name. This would help me to truly know every middle schooler and upper elementary kiddo.
Welcoming each student by their name truly shows students you see them and care about them. If I could also continue working on lower elementary and high school names that would be fantastic too.
This upcoming academic year, I would also like to take more time out to make sure I create more connections with students. I want to make myself available for both teachers and students when any need arises.

I will be working on greeting my students as they walk into my course everyday. This should help with making connections with each of my students. I will also be working on sitting with my students at lunch and at break. This will allow me to learn more about them outside of the classroom.

I would like to understand each student’s math level and help them gain confidence and tools for building their skills, as well as enjoyment of math. Also, I want to engage them in the math lessons by using their real-life passions, whether it is athletics, music, art, current popular (God-honoring) trends, etc.

I want to guard the start of course better. Not just greeting them, but having a specific routine that they can follow. I normally make an effort at the, but sometimes it gets shoved aside if I feel pressed for time or if our schedule is off. Also, I want to make time for each of my students. Maybe just a lunch with a group of 2 or 3.

I appreciate the idea that discipline is a form of nurturing students. This give me new motivation to treat discipline as a key part of caring for my students rather than a necessary evil I’d like to avoid. Also, I’d like to make a habit of spending about one day each week interacting with the students at recess (even if I’m not on duty) to build relationships with them.
