Identify one or two practices you could implement to further nurture your students.

1) Sitting down with them during snack and lunchtime. It’s hard to believe, but even as a kindergarten teacher, I don’t get a chance to do this even though I’m in the same room with them.
2) Making sure I close each school day with a few minutes of nurture.

I will dedicate time each week to have one-on-one or small group check-ins with my students. This practice will allow me to understand their academic and emotional needs, celebrate their successes, and provide support in areas where they may be struggling.

I plan to choose a few students each week to have lunch or recess with me. This one-on-one time will allow me to build stronger relationships, discuss their interests and concerns, and share successes.

Enforcing school policies in love without misinterpretation of contents.

One thing that I used to do, but have fallen out of the habit of, is eating lunch with my students. This was a great way to hear what they were doing outside of school and to see who they are playing with on the playground. I would love to add this into my rhythms at least once a week. Additionally, I would love to add a Scripture to each science lesson for the week or at least a verse that connects to the unit we are on. I think this would be a great way to encourage students to see how the Lord’s hand is in everything. They have to memorize scripture for Bible class, but it would be so cool if I could incorporate more Scripture into my science lessons as well.
