I want to be more mindful about overextending students. I want to demonstrate care, calm, and honesty so that students can share with me and I can nurture them with assistance to balance their activities.

I could give them premade passes to come and see me during my free periods for help. I could make a goal to think of at least 3 positive comments to give during each course period, whether to individual students or to the course as a whole.

I already do many of the nurturing suggestions mentioned in the video. I need to work on having more positive conversations with parents about how their child learn, what they struggle with, and more positive reports about academics.

One of the practices i use in my classroom is the phrase “If not here than where?” when it comes to asking questions. I use this phrase to mean if they need a place that’s safe to ask questions, it is my course. I teach Middle School Bible, so there are a number of questions that can come up during a discussion! I allow them to ask whatever they want, as long as it is appropriate. We have questions ranging from current events and pop-culture to Bible Stories and doctrinal issues. I repeat it often “if not here, than where?”

I would like to be more intentional to recognize when a child is following my directions. I would also like to focus on the improvements of the students and communicate them to their parents.
