I can encourage the students to speak kind words to one another. I can make my course a safe place for questions.

I want to be intentional about heartily/joyfully greeting each student by name, every morning.

When I had a problem with a disruptive student, I used to scold her publicly, saying, “Be quiet.” or “It’s not your turn to talk.” But I started walking up to her, kneeling down next to her desk and quietly asking her to listen to my teaching. She would respond more positively because I wasn’t embarrassing her, forcing her to defend her pride.
Secondly, I want to plan a weekly one-on-one session to work on a missing or difficult assignment or just to pray for each student. Students at my boarding school are far away from their family support system. I am a surrogate parent who must nurture my students in a more intensive way than teachers working at a traditional school. -
For this next school year, all of our teachers will be meeting individually with each parent near the beginning of the school year. This will give us a chance to get to know any specific needs or challenges that a student may have. This will help me to know how to pray specifically for my students.

I would love to have more time and fewer students to be able to seat and talk to each of them every day!
