I would like to have lunch with one or two students individually when I am not on lunch duty. After this lesson, I think I will try to implement this next year. I think it will be fun to get to know “my kids” on a deeper level.

Look to acknowledge students individually as they leave the course, not simply upon their entrance to the classroom.

I believe one thing that we can implement into the nurturing of our students is Look for the good, not always looking to correct. One of my famous sayings is I want to catch you being good! I believe another big part of nurturing your students is to teach your students how to nurture everyone in the course not just their best friend, but the kid who nobody cares for, the quiet and shy child in the course. To publicly reward with our words those kids who you catch going above and beyond to help others in the classroom.

I tend to be in the back of the classroom when students enter the room, transitioning to the next course. I’ve found that moving to the front of the classroom as soon as the bell rings to open with prayer sets a positive tone in the classroom. I might try moving to the front of the room while students are entering the classroom and being more intentional in greeting students as they enter. From the back of the room, I greet those who enter first or sit near my desk. Being at the front of the classroom would allow me to speak to more students. Once they are settled, I could then check attendance while they are completing the bellwork.
