Identify one or two practices you could implement to further nurture your students.

I need to greet the students by name and spend some time with them in the morning and before they go home. I also need to be consistent with my students in classroom management. I need to teach them to nurture each other.

I want to speak positive thoughts to the students. I also want to help them be more loving to their classmates.

I appreciated Dr Black’s idea about greeting students by name as each one comes in the door. I greet students but usually with just a “good morning” or a head nod. The name is more personable. I also would like to implement bragging on students who have participated in extracurricular activities.

I really like the idea of taking some time during the lunch hour to walk around and connect with students to find out how they are doing or to ask how their sports or hobbies are going. I think it’s important that we humanize ourselves as teachers so that we can have meaningful relationships with our students so they know that we truly care. I also think it’s important to pray over our students and to make our prayers specific to what their prayer requests are. I think that this is such a special bond that christian teachers can have with their students and that they can see we care authentically and can be the hands and feet of Jesus in the classroom.

I need to do a better job of not teaching bell to bell so that would give me a chance to talk to the students and not be rushed.
