We can help by guiding students to desire to grow in their faith individually. If we can guide them to make their faith their own, then they will be prepared to fight the good fight when they leave our schools.

In Biology there are always sides being taken. One powerful too is to watch evolution vs creation debates. I include content on theories of evolution so that students can be empowered with knowledge from both sides. I also share my enthusiasm for creation in each unit, pointing out how amazingly complex and wonderful even the smallest cell truly is.

In order to prepare my students for attacks on their Christian faith, I want to first help them build a strong foundation in Christ. This may come through Bible verse memorization, daily classroom devotions, and Bible character studies. In course, we dive into some deep questions students have about certain Bible characters’ behaviors, heaven, creation, etc. Science course also raises many Biblical questions we discuss as we dive in the Scriptures for answers. I think modeling the active search for Biblical answers is a way to prepare my students.

One way to help prepare my students for attack on their Christian faith is to help them to memorize scripture. This will help when they need a reminder or a reference when dealing with certain situations. I will also encourage my students to never shy away from their faith in disagreements and to always be polite when handling disagreements or conversations that might test their faith.

We can prepare students by referencing Scripture and having them memorize some verses that address the moral values opposed to the post-modern world view. An example is in Genesis where it says, “God created them male and female.” Others are about sexual relations, honoring God, false idols and more. Teachers can discuss age appropriate behaviors that are changing in the culture. Another way is to devote more course time to our school mission to produce Christ serving disciples and to cut back on activities that do not promote the mission and take up valuable instructional time.
