One way we can prepare ourselves and our students is with some strong apologetic training. I was listening to a podcast where it was suggested that we look at basic doctrines, list what the biblical worldview is, have several verses of support, and the identify what other worldviews would say about that concept considering how that contrasts from the biblical worldview.

I love the way Christ exemplifies this in scripture. Everytime he is provoked, he answers with scripture. I hope and seek to use this model in my classroom more and more so that students know the simple steps to deal with adversity and attacks. I also think we are not to engage every time we are provoked. The scenes on social media is a perfect example when issues arise and comments, likes or dislikes are prompted. We need to recoginize situations to speek truth and not be tricked into discussions that are not essential or important. Teaching students to discern online issues and drama will be very helpful to them as they grow in a sophistocated technology world.

I am sad to say that even in second grade last year, we had students having to discern what is right and wrong for biblical truths in grown up topics because the commercials and media would show examples of “worldly ideas.” So we would have discussions about it. I imagine that in the upper elementary and secondary grades this is going to become even more frequent.
Starting next year, our bible teacher will be doing worldview lessons using contemporary subjects and age-appropriate content to begin to expose students to “living in the world but not being of it.” I really looking forward to having these discussions trickle into the rest of my course and lessons.

As I develop relationships with each of my students I want to allow natural discussions about where they may be already facing attacks or, at least, an undermining of what they believe. Social media is a large part of their lives (I teach middle school) and I want to help them think through what worldview so-called “influencers” portray and whether it is biblical or not. Where is the good, true, and beautiful and where is the stuff that just degrades their soul and dishonors Christ? Colossians 2 will lead us.

one way that I can help students prepare for attacks on Christian faith is to read and know the scriptures. Memorize! Have someone in mind that you could go to to ask questions. Ask the Lord for Wisdom. Pray.
