As we approach “big questions” in course, continue to direct students to scripture as the foundation for answers so that they are not confused or suprised by the lies and attacks of the world. We also need to listen to our students and treat their questions with the seriousness/respect they deserve. When we fail to acknowledge that many problems we face as individuals, as a community, and as a global society are complex, we make it more likely to have students leave us and be quickly turned away from the faith by those who do acknowledge those complexities — but without God’s word as the measure of weighing solutions.

I know that when my students go to university in our province that their faith will be under massive and insidious attack. If my students have experience solid Biblical integration, apologetics, and hermeneutics, they will be well armed to defend their faith and not get left sitting there wondering what happened. If they can defend their faith against foolishness like ‘the Bible contradicts itself,’ and, ‘obviously science proved the Bible is a myth,’ and set their accusers straight in a loving, compassionate, and graceful way, it will be good for their faith as well as their listeners.

I think that we can help students prepare for attacks by being honest about the trials that we have experienced as we have walked the life path with God.

Be truthful and honest, even in the hard things. Help them be critical thinkers.

It is important that in all of their courses students are learning Scripture that shows them how each subject is viewed in the Bible, and how they can defend their faith and world view in all learning and in real life.
