I teach second grade so one of the ways I can prepare my students for attacks on their Christian faith is to help them memorize the scripture. By teaching about the struggles of people in the Bible and how God was with them. Also, we introduce them to modern day missionaries and show them their dedication to spreading the Gospel of Jesus.

In my Apologetics course, we are spending a good amount of time in role-playing to practice conversations with those of other belief systems. I am also having them work through Rebecca McLaughlin’s questions in “Confronting Christianity.” I want my students to be ready to give a reason for the hope that they have (1 Pet. 3:15) and not wait until after high school to have their faith challenged.

I will prepare students by studying scriptures to trust God. He will take care of these attacks but we must pray and have faith.

Scripture talks about having a reason for our faith, being prepared to answer to our faith.

I try to bring in contemporary ideas that are relevant and developmentally appropriate which challenge the ideas of Christianity. This gives us, as a course, a chance to (1) recognize that such challenges do actually exist in the real world today and (2) prepare our hearts and minds to respond to these challenges with grace and truth.
