I try to bring in contemporary ideas that are relevant and developmentally appropriate which challenge the ideas of Christianity. This gives us, as a course, a chance to (1) recognize that such challenges do actually exist in the real world today and (2) prepare our hearts and minds to respond to these challenges with grace and truth.

Ground them in Scripture, and teach/model how to be resolved in their faith.

To help my students ready themselves for attacks on their Christian faith, I need to teach them about the worldview of the fallen world. The students need to put on the armor of God as they move out into the world. The students need to be taught how to react to threats in a loving and gentle way.

One way is teaching them the knowledge of the Bible including its history of the characters and lands that are inside it. Then teach them Christian apologetics, as well as, how to debate without letting feelings get in the way of logic.

Preparing students for the real world by integrating scripture throughout course discussions and applying them to life’s examples. Using the Bible/scriptures as a foundation to answers for any life circumstances. Allowing students to see that what people in the Bible walked through also applies to life today and know that God’s work is the truth.
