Acts 17:11 “Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”
This call to examine the scriptures for ourselves and see if what we are being told is true is for us now just as it was for the Berean Jews in Paul’s day. Scripture is our one and only filter.

When I hear teachings that are contrary to Scripture, I perk up my ears and try to be as discerning as possible. Hearing someone speak false doctrine is an immediate red flag as to whether the individual can be trusted in any biblical teaching. False doctrine chips away at the entire Bible. We cannot pick and choose what we agree with. I firmly believe false teachers should be called out immediately. They should be gently pointed back to Scripture and to correct interpretation. We must treat all with dignity and love as the apostle John said, but we must stand for God’s Truth.

I don’t accept them. I make sure that I know the truth and go off of Scripture.

To respond to teachings that contradict Scripture, evaluate the claims against Scripture to identify inconsistencies, pray for guidance to seek wisdom and discernment, engage in dialogue with the individual in a spirit of love and humility while discussing the discrepancies, seek counsel from trusted spiritual leaders or mentors for additional insight, and uphold biblical truth by standing firm in your convictions while maintaining a respectful attitude.
