In 3 John we learned how to deal with someone teaching false doctrine. How do you respond to teachings that contradict Scripture?

We first have to be able to recognize false doctrine. We can do this by being knowledgeable in the truth and asking God to reveal His truths to us. When I hear teachings that contradict Scripture, I go straight to the Scripture to see what it says so I can fully understand how the false doctrine contradicts it. I will try to share the Scripture with those that may have heard the false doctrine and let them know the truth.

First we would have to have the scriptural knowledge to actually know the truth and recognize false teaching. Which evidently the folks John is talking to do since he addresses them as faithful followers. John’s model is 1. Do not pulled into false teaching, 2 Encourage teachers that teach the truth, 3. confront false teachers,

False teachers exist in the teachings of the Bible at all times. Most of their teachings explain things that are difficult for us to understand easily. Therefore, people who are more interested and eager than anyone else in the Bible are deceived by false teachers. So I try to judge around the text of the Bible. And seek the teachings and understanding of the Holy Spirit.

We must not compromise God’s truths, but as we confront those teaching false doctrine we must do so in a way that exhibits love and speak the truth which is the Word of God.
