I want to listen and allow them to explain. Then show me the truth, explain, through scripture, and point out the contradiction.

I would remove myself from the presence of such individuals. Sometimes this is best, considering I have witnessed many very explosive arguments resulting from conversational debates about religion. Here is a mature thought: Everyone is not Christian nor are they trying to become Christian, there are many people who prey on weak churches seeking power and/or financial leverage.

the scripture tell us that you can confront them with love and truth.

Again, knowing the truth is the most important thing, standing by it is second.

As with any time I disagree with someone on something, I approach the conversation with curiosity first in order to understand what they are saying to make sure that I am not misinterpreting their words. Then I try to identify the areas in which we have common understanding and point those out, and from there I use Scripture to explain my perspective on points of difference, and ask for them to use Scripture in order to explain their perspective. If a satisfying agreement is not reached in the end, I clearly state my position so as to clearly defend what I believe to be truth.
