In 3 John we learned how to deal with someone teaching false doctrine. How do you respond to teachings that contradict Scripture?

Have them go to the scripture and search it out.

We love them first, and out of that love, speak the truth from scripture to them.

I am never confrontational. I just say “I don’t agree.” With some close friends or associates, that comment elicits a surprised expression. I hope that suggests that they will perhaps rethink their conclusions.

I typically investigate scripture and ask questions of people whom I know to be versed in the Word and willing to dive in with me. And, sometimes, faith allows me to see an individual interpretation as another’s path to their own search for truth, as the lie is always disclosed in God’s time.

When I come across some teaching false doctrine. I always ask where is that in the Bible, let’s search the scriptures together.
