In analyzing a biblical worldview, which distinctive would be most compelling to your non-Christian friends? Why?

The most compelling distinctive would probably be having meaning or purpose in their life now, but also hope for life in eternity. This strikes a chord with my friends who want purpose, but have difficulty identifying why their life matters.

Many people seem to really struggle with why a loving God “let’s bad things happen to good people.” But in God’s eyes we all fall short of HIs glory, so on our own none of us are worthy of being in his presence. So he sent his son Jesus to bridge that gap.

My first answer was from my confusion of the question. It was actually more fitting for the 2nd question. So here is my edited answer: Most people are compelled by the hope of attaining eternal life through the free gift of salvation offered through Jesus’ atoning work on the cross.

It is hard for me to decide between Biblical Meaning or the Future that would be most compelling. People want to know there is more to this life than pleasure and pain and then just die to be remembered no more. To know that Jesus was more than just a teacher, but actually our Creator, Son of God, Mediator, Savior, and ruler of our age to come. They hopefully will see that everything has meaning in relation to Jesus. Biblical Furure offers that hope in a life to come, and that our identity and personality are eternal. God offers that forgiveness in Christs atoning act on the cross and gives new life to those who respond.

I believe that we all want to have hope. That there is meaning to this life, our lives, and that there is a life beyond this current timeframe. The most compelling distinctive for my non-Christian friends would be to understand that our “identity and personality are eternal.” We are created by God for God. He is holy. We are not and this has created a chasm between us and Him. While every other religion is man’s effort to cross this chasm through good works and trying to live a “good life”, the biblical worldview says that God comes to us and offers the restoration of our relationship with him through faith in Jesus Christ who live the perfect life on our behalf and through faith in him we cross back over from death to life.

We are all sinners and need a savior. Jesus is the only one who provides this for us. In the other monotheistic faiths, there is an emphasis on falling under the law. No matter how hard we try, we will not live up to the law in deed and thought. We need a savior. Believing in Jesus allows us to see the purpose for which we live and the plan for when we die.
