They help us to better understand what is behind the passage and let us know if there is meaning based on things we would not see always by reading the text without that information.

To me it seems that the micro-observation seems to be somewhat better because you are taking more information.

These micro-observation steps allow us to better understand the passage of scripture. It is critical to try and understand the author’s original intentions by studying the historical aspect of the scripture. It’s also important to understand the grammatical structure of the text, the punctuation and the different parts of speech used which emphasizes a meaning.
