You have to consider all of the influences that went into the writing of scripture. The references, norms, traditions, phrases. All of it plays a role as to what everything means and how it can be translated for us today.

When you are reading a portion of a book you have to think about all the influences that went into its writing and the overall (macro-observation). Think about the six questions we are talking about, each of the elements listed above are like the qualifying questions we ask.
