In a word pride. Solomon himself wrote about it in Proverbs (Proverbs 11:2, 13:10, 14:13, 16:18 & 29:23). Pride will bring a man down time and time again. It will crush him and destroy everything in its path.

Saul’s pride and disobedience and Solomon’s compromise with sin show the dangers of ignoring God’s commands and allowing worldly influences to pull us away. To stay spiritually strong, we must remain humble, obedient, and devoted to God.
