Not believing and fully trusting in the Lord led to their downfall. Living to satisfy fleshly desires should be avoided because it will pull you down .

We should avoid pride, self-reliance, disobedience. We have to honor marriage as God established it and definitely stay away from idol worship which is an abomination for God. God doesn’t mind for us to be wealthy as long as our heart belongs to Him and not to our possessions.

In considering Saul, we should avoid the spiritual hazards of selfishness, pride, envy, jealousy, hate, and the instinct to take matters into our own hands instead of trusting in God’s purpose for our lives. In considering Solomon, we should avoid the hazards of spiritual complacency, the influence of others who do not share our beliefs, and the idolatry of wealth and ungodly sexual pleasure.
