In briefly considering Saul and Solomon, what spiritual hazards should we avoid?

Saul and Solomon were tempted by and gave into pride and self. They were focused on the pleasures of the flesh and things of this world. We must avoid these things by focusing on the eternal, not temporal. God needs to be our focus.

In the case of Saul, I think we should be wary of looking simply for someone who “looks the part” of leadership. Yes, Saul was a chosen king by God, but God was giving them what they had been asking for.
When it comes to Solomon, I think of the parable of the soil and the seed that was choked out by the desires of this world. We need to watch because our hearts can fall out of love with God and in more in love with things of this world.

Saul and Solomon both seemed to get caught up in the what and forgot the keep the WHO (GOD) as the main thing. Thus leading to their downfall.

Be careful with whom you surround yourself with; in order to prevent false idols from taking a place in your life. Keep Christ the center.
