Humility and listening to the right people. Being receptive

Both let their successes be their own and forgot that God was in control. We see the rise and fall of politicians in much the same way. Good intentions corrupted by sin.

The spiritual hazards to avoid, based on Saul and Solomon, are:
-
Pride and Self-Reliance (Saul): Don’t rely on your own strength or wisdom; always seek God’s guidance.
-
Compromise and Idolatry (Solomon): Avoid letting distractions, relationships, or material things take priority over your faith and obedience to God.

Saul wanted to do things his way and not the Lord’s way. Solomon took his blessings of wealth and luxury for granted. He was not a good steward of his financial blessings.

Saul didn’t humble himself to accept he was not fit for the position and give room for God to do what was best for the people. Solomon enjoyed the privileges of his wealth taking for granted God’s blessings to him dismissing his role of being a good steward of the blessings for the good of God’s people. Both were selfish. This can easily happen in ministry when we want to do it all and not invite others and share the work for the Kingdom or when we don’t want to accept we are not equipped for the job. Many times we push forward when God has not favored us in that position.
