In briefly considering Saul and Solomon, what spiritual hazards should we avoid?

I would say being self-centered. Once they forgot who was really in charge they suddenly experienced many downfalls.

We as God’s people should avoid the hazards of anything that will cloud our judgement to make sound decisions. We must be aware at all times of what we are exposing ourself to that causes this cloudiness to over take us.

These two kings did not have the Lord Jesus Christ to tell them not to lean on their own understanding. They looked at God’s prophets as mere men and did not rely on them until they encountered a situation that they could not get out on their own thinking. Many times, these two kings did not focus on their thoughts and relied on their feelings and their behaviors to make decisions; but if there is no vision, one need not make any decision. King David also fell out of grace with God in his lust of the heart; he asked for forgiveness; but the Lord had put a curse on David’s house. For the remaining of his house, it is to be ruled by a weapon and dissension among his members and the child of his lust had died. So, when looking at King Saul and King Solomon we must know that ALL have sinned and have fallen short of the Glory. They are still God’s anointed.

Saul and Solomon were self-righteous and thus failed because they were doing life and works FOR God.
As opposed to David and Nehemiah (for example) doing life and works WITH God and being blessed with His results. -
Self centeredness and self righteousness. We should also avoid loving the things of this world.
