We all have dark sides and flaws that can ruin our lives and the people around us. We must avoid temptations of the world of money, power, and sex.

In considering Saul and Solomon, we should avoid the spiritual hazards of wanting to do things our own way and in living lives full of luxury while not obeying the Lord.

God called both Saul and Solomon to positions of great importance. However, both Saul and Solomon let what the world said about their positions of authority rule the decisions they made instead of what God said. Even though Solomon was wise, he let the trap of success impact the decisions he made on earth, specifically surrounding the taking of wives from outside of Israel and letting foreign gods impact his personal faith.

Focus on God and do things through Him. Avoid greed and don’t be focused on living a life of luxury. Focus on your duties and your spiritual relationship with God, don’t forget to encourage others to build a relationship with God as well.

Greed, self-focusing, lust … all are temptations of the flesh instead of the leadership of the spirit.
