They both lost focus of who God is and what it means to follow God. Saul was prideful and Solomon got caught up in fleshly desires.

We need to cling to Jesus Christ and surrender our sinful lusts and deceptive ideologies. We need to recognize that our hearts have a propensity for sin and constantly depend on the Spirit to lead and show us what is leading or motivating us to do or move in any given direction and heed what the Lord by His Spirit is showing us about our motive or desire and surrender quickly all defiled motives and pray for His continued grace to enable our consistent dependence on Him.
