Avoid wandering from calling and truth; jealousy, lust, pride, and greed.

We should avoid putting ourselves in a position where we don’t believe we need God. The reality is, we will ALWAYS need God. These men believed themselves to be able to function without humble submission to the Creator. Without constant humility before God, we would end up just like them.

We should avoid temptation, thereby leaving behind idolatry, greed, lust and pride.

We should avoid depending on ourselves to complete what God began. Both kings began well, with God’s blessing, but failed abjectly as they tried to do things their own way, apart from God’s expressed will.
