Do not let the world’s treasures tempt you away from your relationship to God. Earthly treasures are temporary, but God’s love and promise is everlasting.

We should focus on our relationship with God and not be distracted by other ungodly people or things.
-
We should avoid the worshipping of spiritual leaders but instead keep our eyes on God and worship Him only in spirit and in truth.

In I Samuel, Saul sets his own priorities as first king of Israel. His ego was inflated as he was not a leader. Later, he dies. Also, as a king, Solomon leads the people of Israel into horrible times of destruction. Through these two men God shows what they did wrong. Finally, God’s words were to teach his people about leadership and character.

At first, Saul, or Paul was Jesus’ main enemy. He sought out to ruin Jesus Christ’s name. His bad character tells us what to avoid being if we are true Christians. (Later on he changed into a good Christian. He showed us how to devotely worship Jesus.) Solomon’s riches kept him going back into sinful situations, making him forget his need for God. His bad actions are ones which we are to avoid.
