In briefly considering Saul and Solomon, what spiritual hazards should we avoid?

We will do well to avoid pride and self-centeredness. Saul was so caught up in himself and his position that he turned to his own desires and decisions, rather than looking to and trusting the Lord. When his replacement was lined up, he tried to cling to the power he held by chasing down David, thinking he could change the course God had already set. You can’t mess with God’s plans.
In Solomon, we see what happens when we try to find delight and satisfaction in things other than the Lord. Solomon built for himself a king down of riches and surplus, meeting all types of fleshly desires, and got hit hard when he realized none truly satisfied him.

They both made poor choices. Worshiping idols and Solomon was frivolous.

Saul and Solomon both worshiped idols, they brought in woman from other countries as well as their false religions. They lived Lavishly and wasted the nations wealth

We need to be constant in our pursuit of God and his leading in our life. Both Saul and Solomon had their idols (pride, greed, wealth, lust), and we need to be aware of those things that Satan puts in front of us to trip us up.

Pride and not understanding that we need God more then the world.
