Becoming, following, or seeking idols. Saul and Solomon were both great kings that imploded due to character flaws that initially came about due to idolatry. My definition of idolatry is simply anything thatb we put before God (our own ego, welath, status, etc.). Saul didn’t trust God and made his own decisions that cost him his throne. Solomon loved wisdom and broke God’s commands by making alliances with other countries and taking their gods, riches, and women.

We should be cautious to think that we’re able to handle more than we actually can. Apart from God we can do nothing. Therefore, grave danger occurs when we live as if we can control and drive the moments of our lives.

considering Saul, His inadequacy to David’s exploits and victories made Him fear for his reign as king. His envy for the gifts and abilities of David made him a feeble king. As for Solomon , his downfall was of complacency. He has everything for he was deeply blessed. He started to feel adequate that he is free to do whatever he desire.

Thinking higher of ourselves than we ought to and ignoring God in the world that He has created.

Pride, envy, self-worship, trusting our limited vision rather than trusting God’s vision for us.
