In order to understand the message of a prophetic book, what are two important things to consider?

When and where they were prophesizing. Knowing these two things allows us to understand the message and if it is a warning against current actions or a future calamity.

To understand the message of a prophetic book, a person needs to consider both the time and culture of when the book was written.

1. For the reader to understand a prophet’s message we must understand to whom the prophet was speaking, the culture and/or the situation at that time.
2. A good study bible will assist in understanding the historical context which the prophet spoke.

Time and Place are very important to have full context to undertand the message.. I also consider the situtation of the time.

(a) The audience the prophet was talking to, and
(b) The conditions of the time.
Both of these lend valuable insight into why the prophet was sent, why the particular content of message was conveyed and why he focused on certain topics.
