In order to understand the message of a prophetic book, what are two important things to consider?

We need to understand the time period in which they were speaking, and the audience they were speaking to.

When the prophets spoke and to whom they spoke — their audience, particularly geographically.

We need to understand the context from 2 perpectives. “When” is the time perspective, and “to Whom” was the social / geographic perpective. Only when the background from these 2 perspectives will we be able to understand the message which the Prophet was charged with delivering.

The two important things to consider in understanding a prophet’s message is the time period in which he prophesied and to whom he prophesied.
