In response to Dr. Paul Brand’s statement, would you exchange your freedom to choose in order to enjoy freedom from pain?

From someone who lives in pain 24/7/365 – absolutely! I am often heard saying I cannot wait until the Lord calls me home so I can have my new body.

Susan Sawyer: If we had no freedom to choose, a different sort of pain would be experienced – in the form of frustration or desire to rebel, similar to a child who is told not to do something.

No. I value my freedom of choice and I understand that even though I don’t like suffering, that that is the cost of my freedom.

If we are following God’s will, then we would not be in suffering and if we chose direct obedience. I also think that by exchanging our freedom,we don’t fully understand the depth of God’s love. We couldn’t appreciate Heaven without Earth and some suffering. I think ultimately our human nature wants freedom. We crave choice and freedom. I believe I would choose to be free even if that comes with suffering.
