Illumination. It is the “aha” moment for me…when the passage reveals the intent of the message. I don’t think it hinders me. It makes me want to discover more.

Faith and humility- have the greatest influence on me as I study the word of God . First I have to believe that God is and that His word is true and forever settled in heaven. The Bible is the word of God . Humility- helps me to maintain focus and perspective. God is sovereign and in control.

Awareness – I am aware that I have been taught and learned on my own some things that were not great interpretations in the past and I try not to allow those to impact how I look at a passage now. These are not key points of faith but smaller items but the fact that I know that I need to study each passage anew helps me but some things are tough to get past when you already have a long standing incorrect interpretation.
