It is helpful to understand the scripture better.

humility, because one must be humble in our study and our interpretation is not always correct on surface study. so, without the faith, illumination, qualification and awareness one will not grasp the true meaning.

I find that exegesis is quite straightforward, as it focuses on identifying the author of the scripture and the intended audience. This clarity makes it easier to interpret. Additionally, I appreciate that the hermeneutics process is similarly accessible since scripture maintains a consistent meaning over time. It consistently conveys its message in a clear and direct way, which facilitates understanding.

For me the greatest influence to interpretation. There are times when I feel prayerfully confident that I understand what a passage means only to find out later that I was incorrect. I guess the blessing is that God did not allow me to stay ignorant to the passage. Case in point, Revelation 3:20 used in this lesson. I believed that this passage referred to unbelievers. It was not until I used the method of Exegesis that I now see that Jesus was referring to the Luke-warm believers. This changes the whole meaning for me and brings into stark focus the original meaning of the text. I can now us this method in my future study of the Bible. Exegesis: The Original Message! thank you ODBU!!

I am living in the 21st century, and my concepts and cultural understanding are vastly different from what these biblical writers understood. I have to be humble enough to recognize my Pre-Understandings are not theirs. For me to get the context of the exegesis, I must cast aside my conclusion, and interpret what the writer is trying to convey.
