    The Israelites were forced to wander the desert for 40 years because they did not trust that God was able to fulfill His promise to give them the Promised Land. They feared the giants that lived there.

    The Israelites did not trust God’s way. They feared humans more than God himself. Their disobedience led them to wandering in the desert until that disobedient generation had passed and the new generation could enter into the Promised Land.

    Once again, they were thinking humanly. In their own strength and cunning, of course they could not take on the Canaanites and win. But with God, all things are possible. Those who believed God got to enter into the Promised Land, though they had to wait 40 years.
