The Israelites did not trust God but trusted themselves. They decided to disobey instead of listening and trusting God in His time and now their own.
-
They continued to groan against God will and display rebellion against his will so God let them remain in the desert I until the next generation more obedient to him ,would follow his leading.
-
The Israelites continually tried to do things their own way rather than God’s way, and this caused them to wander longer than they could have.
-
The Israelites rebelled and disobeyed God by refusing to go into the Promised Land and prayed that God would not make them enter. God answered their prayer by making the generation that disobeyed Him wander in the desert for forty years and then sent the new generation into the Promised Land.

When the Israelites had the opportunity to enter the Promised Land they refused because they were viewing things from their own strength and ability. God trained them for fourty years in the wilderness until they were able to trust in His strength and provision.
