I have doubted my faith in the past, but never to the point of abandoning it.

I have never been tempted to abandon my faith but have had times over the years where I questioned God’s plan, my purpose, and why bad things happen to loved ones. Reminding myself of the many times God has answered my prayers, listening to worship music, talking to friends grounded in their faith has always encouraged me and reminded me that God’s ways are always best.

I have never been tempted to give up my faith in Christ. I have been tempted to quit this life because it is sometimes very hard. My faith in Christ is what has moved me past the depression and discouragement of life in this world.

Many years ago, when I lost part of my finger through an accident during my service in the Army, I spent many days in withdrawal and depression. Even if at moments I doubted my faith, the word of God has kept me on, because I had built up a foundation in Bible study. Moreover, I had known the doctrine of the sovereignty of God, even if at times I found it hard to reconcile with the events of life.

It is easy to be faithful when things go your way. In tough times, such as the loss of a loved one or a child, it is easy to be so overcome by the event that being faithful is drowned out by the immediacy or importance of the moment. I believe those who are really strong in their faith, deal with the event AND ALSO keep ahold of their faith as well.
