In this lecture we learned that Hebrews was written to people who were tempted to abandon their new faith in Christ. Have you ever been tempted to give up your faith in Christ? What helped sustain your faith at that time? - Discussion Forum - Artos Academy (BETA)

After a tragedy in my life, the loss of my Godson, at a young age, I hated God and went cold for 10 years. One day I woke up and realized that God loves everyone and I should not question his decisions. I will see my Godson again, thanks to God’s grace.

Yes i did get tempted away in my youth but returned after a few years as a prodigal. My faith was restored because God never abandoned me and I saw how the world was just getting more and more corrupt and that the full Bible is the truth.

I think being tempted to give up one’s faith in Christ is a common thing, me included! When challenges arise that we never expect to come along, thoughts of doubt can easily take over. For me, when those doubtful thoughts occur, I remind myself of times when the Lord saw me through other challenges. When I look back and see His faithfulness, it helps me keep my faith in Him. Pursuing God through His word sustains me, as well. If I am in the Word on a regular basis, I have found that my faith is firmer than times in which I am not in the Word. The same goes for prayer! All these things – remembering, being in the Word, and praying – all help to sustain my faith!

I can’t say I have been tempted to give up my faith. I haven’t always understood why things would happen during seasons of my life, but have found Isaiah 55:8-9 to remind me He is in control.

I grew up going to church on Sundays and Wednesdays. My grandma and mom were the first people to go from a Catholic church to a Christian church. I was probably in 2nd grade. So I knew who God was, what church was, read the Bible, and so on. When I went to college I started looking for Christian groups to join or a church because that is what I knew. A new friend I had made questioned why I was looking around for church when “my parents aren’t here and aren’t making you anymore.” I had never thought of it that way and my college years were a time of searching. I am thankful that I had a foundation of faith so I knew of God, but he wasn’t yet MY God. After some rough college years I finally got on my knees, asked God to forgive me of my sin, said I couldn’t live this life without Him, and gave my life to Jesus. I have not looked back since.
