We will all struggle. Being around fellow believer, and a member of a strong church and having an accountability partner helps.

If I am being completely honest, faith is hard. It is hard to combat the desires in the world but my mother, who I did not know to be spiritual – although she loved Christmas and Easter (now I know why) – indicated to me that Jesus was awaiting her and was with her as she prepared to die after a very long battle with transplant. She had been hallucinating ridiculous things as she tried to recover, and one of the days she looked at me, very clearly, and said that I had to let her die. I was shocked because of how lucid she was after weeks of confusion. I said what any bumbling daughter would do to the effect of: You’ve got to keep fighting. And she responded with a statement about how her body was dying, and then she said, “but don’t worry because Jesus is here with me.” I had never heard her mention Jesus before ( I was 30) and she said his name clear as day. At that moment, I knew that He was not only real to me, but more importantly, to my mom who was about to meet him. That has been with me for the last 11.75 years. He’s real. He’s my hope. I know because of Him, that my mother ascended to heaven to meet the eternal promise. There’s no way I will allow myself to mess this up after witnessing the most selfless woman prepare to meet Jesus in a way that released me from all fear for her. While I have never stopped missing her, I know she is okay.

Question my faith in Christ? Yes, many times. Give up my faith in Christ? No. As a student of history, I marvel at the Christians who were martyred for their faith and I wonder if I could ever have such courage and commitment.

I was tempted to leave the faith when my best friend died when I was 20 years old. I blamed God for calling her back home at young age. It took a while for me to finally accept that she was in a better place no more suffering and I developed a closer relationship with God after her death.

I have never been tempted to give up yet. I know the time may come so I need to stay in the Word to prevent this inthe future
