In this lesson, we learned that the believer needs spiritual instruction. What would the Christian life be like without teaching on how to live it?

It would be extremely hard for most people and would be like a baby learning how to grow up into adulthood without a parent.

If we did not have specific teachings of spiritual instructions, rules, laws, etc., the entire effort of the Christian community would have ended in total chaos.

People would not know how to live or what to do with the newness in their life.

Even those who saw the way Jesus lived and heard directly from him had difficulty applying His teaching to their lives. It was radically different from how things had been done up to that point, and it is radically different from how the world would have us live now. Because it may be difficult to tell where our traditions end and where living as Christ begins, and because messages can be corrupted over time, it is important to constantly look back to spiritual instruction and use it to re-calibrate ourselves.

This would be stark and faulty. People would choose what is best in their minds, even if wrong, and do this as a way of life, driving down the benefits and love God would have for them over a self-centered existence.
