The Old Testament prophecies solidify that Jesus was, in fact, the Messiah. He fulfilled over 150 prophecies of the Old Testament. Also, without the knowledge of The Fall and sin entering into the world, there would be no need for a Savior.

The Old Testament gives you all of the history and background for the New Testament.

I deeply value studying the Old Testament because Jesus Himself declared that He did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them. By understanding the laws, prophecies, and teachings found in those sacred texts, I can better grasp the profound ways in which Jesus’ life and ministry complete and affirm them. The Old Testament lays the foundation for the New, and through it, I see the continuity of God’s plan for humanity, fulfilled perfectly in Christ.

In the Old Testament we see God trying too restore His people to a relationship with Him many times. There is promises of a Messiah who is to come. We also learn of geneology of Jesus. In the New Testament God’s promise of a Messiah is fulfilled and we follow Jesus life, teachings and miracles. We follow His death on the cross, burial, ressurection and ascention into Heaven. Jesus came to earth as a man to die for our sins and through Him we can have life eternal with Jesus.

Without the Old Testament, how can we understand the New Testament? The origin of the New Testament’s promise is rooted in God’s promise after humanity’s first sin, as described in Genesis 3:15: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” This is a key promise regarding God’s plan of salvation through his only Son, Jesus (Yeshua). Furthermore, the Old Testament contains many foreshadowings of Jesus and numerous prophecies about him. This is because the Old Testament is the beginning of God’s love story.
