One of the last things mentioned in the lecture was having extended care available outside of school hours to accommodate sets of parents who are both working. We have this available at our school both before and after school hours at a very minimal cost. When we give tours to prospective families it is a huge benefit to them to know that if they have to work outside of school hours regularly or even have the possibility of having to work extra hours and are unable to pick their kids up, they know that they can utilize this option.

One way our school supports parents is with a devotion with the parent and child. It is a great time and the children love it.

The truthful answer is that we don’t do enough. This video is a bit convicting. I think parents really could benefit from helpful resources for homework strategies, etc. Recently, the school held a parent informational meeting to discuss changes/upcoming events for the new year. We also have scheduled open houses and parent-teacher conference days. These are helpful touchpoints to build positive relationships between the school and its families. Even so, there are targeted ways we could increase parent engagement and promote student success. I particularly liked the suggestion about social media awareness training.

through parents conferences, getting in touch with them and keeping them up to date about their child through emails

School activities, parent involvement with fundraisers, classroom involvement.
