I try to build a classroom culture of understanding and respect with my kindergartners’ families. I research the family structure of each kid and make accommodations in different ways to include everyone. It could look like sending voice notes to explain assignment instructions to parents who aren’t literate, sending personal reminders to the mom who hardly has time to read any school emails, calling nearly enough to alert a mom who works away from home that her child’s lunch wasn’t sent, and going a step further to offer snack/lunch suggestions from school. My school is highly invested in involving families in several ways; selecting parent reps from each grade, the parent-teacher association, online and physical webinars on related parenting issues, back-to-school night, family fun days, and parent-teacher conferences. The school truly embodies our tag line, “your family school”

We have a back-to-school night where the students and parents can meet their teachers and see their classrooms and curriculum. There are also parent/teacher conferences to discuss questions or concerns, especially with students who are not passing their classes. Lesson plans and homework assignments are posted on a website where parents and students can see them in case of absences or any missing work. Email notifications help communicate new material, changes, or behavioral concerns.

There are various ways that my school do to support parents that I love so dearly; The Parents Teacher Conference (PTC) where parents and subject teachers will discuss about students’ academics and moral. Also, the invitation of individual parent if there is any urgent need to clinically look at the general performances of students in various aspect. There is also a Bible lesson, which exposes the students to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

When parents are out of town and leave their children with grandparents who may not be literate, I take full responsibility for ensuring the children complete their homework assignments. Additionally, I have encountered several parents who struggle to train their children, especially their sons, in my class. Rather than assigning blame or making accusations, I choose to pray for them and provide encouragement along with helpful tips to overcome these challenges. As a result, I have received positive feedback from parents, who appreciate the care and support I offer and feel more comfortable communicating and opening up to me.

My school also hosts online webinars for parents, focusing on various 21st-century topics. These conferences are conducted online to accommodate working parents. Because of this approach, the number of parents attending these sessions has increased, as they can conveniently listen to podcasts or webinars from the comfort of their own homes.

Two things my school do to support parents that I cherish most are: (i) introduction of Parents, Teachers Conference (PTC), (ii) Individual parent- teacher meeting. It creates and exposes both the school and the parents to strategies that can give an expected end in the life of the students.
