We encourage parents to be involved in a parent union attached to our school so that parents can voice their opinions as well as give or receive support to or from the school. This has been effective in that they have assisted the school in being more professional in meeting their needs, and they have ensured the school’s stability.

I am flexible with my parents. Our math curriculum is a bit challenging for parents to help with homework. I tell them to have their child circle the problem they are having a hard time with and we will go over it the next day. I also send home a newsletter letting my parents know ahead of time what is happening in course.

Our school currently offers conference times from early morning until late night. Parents are encouraged to come on field trips, be a guest reader, come and speak for professional days. Parents are pretty involved and invested in their children at our school.

A couple of times each year, we take the entire school day (kids aren’t there) and have the teachers located at tables around the gym, and parents can stop by at a scheduled time to visit with teachers for a set amount of time with each teacher. This has been a popular program and allows us to accommodate a maximum number of parents.
We also have all assignments, grades, submission of classroom work, etc., posted online for parents and students using Canvas. There is never any question on how my student is doing, or from the students-what is the assignment or did I actually turn in that work?

Our school has parent courses each month. It creates a community and safe place for parents to share and learn how best to support their children and know that we as a school are here to help them.
