1) Parent teacher conferences. 2) Truly practicing parental partnership. 3) Engaging parents on academic and behavioral issues when it is early enough to turn things around. Student and parents tend to respond well and to tackle the issues if handled appropriately. Of course, there are always some who do not respond which is difficult.

My school offers monthly parenting courses where they give Biblical principals for raising children.

I am not currently employed by a school. I do volunteer at a new Christian school that benefits low-income families. One teacher is teaching parents how to help their kids with homework. It is wonderful to see parents encouraged and equipped to their jobs at home that maybe they didn’t benefit from themselves.

We try to regularly communicate with our parents. We host events that allow parents to come in and be involved with the students. We encourage volunteering. Any time we can support the parents, we get more accomplished for Christ.

We allow parents to volunteer as support for extracurricular activities and to serve on different committees. Parent involvement really does lighten the load of teachers and administrators, while also creating a more unified relationship between parents, students, and teachers.
